After nearly four years of hard work developing and managing equestrian website bridleways.co.uk, we have decided to review our position and decide what we personally do next.
Clearly there is an interest and demand for such a service from the equestrian community, however like many other organisations we have not had the ability to make the website self-funding, or at least been able to encourage users to support the service financially - essential if we are to add more routes and improve the service.
In the time we have owned the website we have taken it from an initial idea, to a professionally built content managed system, that has a community of over 23,000 registered users, has on average 15,000 visitors per month, is ranked 1st on Google and is generally well regarded within grassroots equestrian communities.
Just to keep the service online costs hundreds of pounds, let alone find the funds to research and develop new routes or add new functionality on the website. There is lot more we could do with the website, in particular add more routes, but running a website of this size is a huge undertaking, which we do over and above our respective day jobs.
We really hoped our website would unite grassroots riders to campaign for better access, share information and help make the website self-sustaining.
