Bridleways announce their first Park and Ride location for horse
riders, that not only provides safe off road parking, but also the
opportunity for a bite to eat and drink after the ride.
Martin Brenchley-Cooper of The Crown Inn, Charlton on Otmoor near
Kidlington, recognised the opportunity of offering parking facilities
for horse riders with trailers and boxes. Martin has invited
Bridleways.co.uk to devise some horse riding routes that start and
finish at his Inn.
Martin comments, “in our previous business we recognised the importance
of the horse riding community, we are keen to repeat the success with
the support and assistance of bridleways.co.uk”.
One of the biggest challenges for any horse rider is finding new places
to ride. This challenge is made even harder by the lack of public
parking areas in villages, large enough or suitable for trailers and
boxes.
A solution to this problem is for village Pubs and Inns to allow the
use of their facilities during pre-agreed times. During the day most of
these car parks tend to be under utilised, but this is the main
activity time for riders. By allowing riders to park their vehicles on
pub car parks, the publican can benefit through food and drink sales to
a new audience. It is a win-win situation for all those concerned,
especially when you consider the power of word of mouth recommendations.
Bridleways.co.uk was launched in May 2005 as a national community
website aimed at horse riders. The website provides a searchable
database of places to ride that start and finish at recognised
locations including pubs. Since the launch the site has attracted over
12,000 users who have viewed over 170,000 pages!
Founder of bridleways.co.uk website Catherine Wheatcroft comments, “we
see there is a natural synergy between what we are offering our users,
and the needs of rural businesses. By promoting a collection of routes
that are centred on a pub or Inn means that prospective customers can
plan short breaks in the area. This will not only benefit the publican,
but also associated local businesses who can provide potential stabling
as well as B&B for the riders.”
