HIGH PEAK
The High Peak is the most northerly of all the Derbyshire districts and is largely a rural area that incorporates a significant part of the Peak National Park. The district’s primary towns and villages are Buxton in the south, and Chapel-en-le-Frith, Whaley Bridge, New Mills, Hayfield to the west. The most northerly town is Glossop. The east comprises of Edale, Castleton and Bamford.

There are a number of bridleways and long distance trails in the area such as the Longdendale Trail or around the Derwent and Howden reservoirs. However some of the bridleways around Mam Tor and Edale are extensively worn, rutted and difficult to navigate on a horse.

Bridleways and other rights of ways in this area are managed by Derbyshire County Council.

We suggest that to get the most out of the area, you purchase the following Ordnance Survey Explorer map: OL1 to use in conjunction with our routes.
