CONWAY AREA950 - Capel Curig - Llyn Cowlyd Reservoir - Capel CurigThis document details a proposed bridleways route. The route stages have been written using an Ordnance Survey Explorer Map rather than physically walked to verify their accuracy. We recommend that you should only attempt the route on horseback if you are familiar with the area or carry an Ordnance Survey map for back up. Many of the routes refer to pubs or other businesses as the starting point. This does not imply that parking facilities are available for horse trailers or horse boxes. They merely act as a recognised reference point for the route. However, please feel free to contact the owner of the business to see if they would be willing for you to park there. Most pub owners are willing, especially if you are ending the ride with a drink or lunch. Please note that this document may refer to landmarks such as telephone boxes, post offices and public houses. It is likely that during the lifetime of this document some of these landmarks may have closed or been removed. We have also made reference to road names and buildings and farms, in some cases signage may not be evident. It is also important to emphasise that some car parks have height barriers in place, please be wary of these as they will be lower than the height of your trailer or horse box. If you are using this route in advance of the route being validated, please make prior arrangements with the owner of the car park. To validate this route, please walk the route and amend the details where necessary. Once completed either: i) provide feedback via the Bridleways Route Forum ii) send us an email, outlining what needs to be changed, or iii) Send the amended form back using the Freepost address at the bottom of this document. Once we have received the revised information we will create a Routecard describing the route in full, which will be made accessible from the website. This draft routecard was printed on 30/07/2010 for We suggest that you reference Ordnance Survey Explorer map number 17 Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa and Conwy Valley/Dyffryn Conwy to get the most out of the route. Parking Information
Route DescriptionPlease amend or add more detail where necessary, buildings and local landmarks will assist others when using the information. Stage 1 From the car park turn along the bridleway so that you are heading away from the cross roads of A4086 and A5. Follow this bridleway along paralleling a river on your right. Keep following the bridleway along for approximately one mile until the river on your right comes very close to the bridleway. At this point you need to watch for a bridleway heading off to your right. Stage 2 Turn right along the bridleway and after a very short distance you will come out onto the A5. Head straight over the A5 onto another bridleway and follow this along past Tal-y-braich and heading uphill. Shortly after you cross over a stream you will come to a T junction of bridleways. Stage 3 Veer left here so that after a short distance you pass Llyn Cowlyd Reservoir on you right. Follow the bridleway along the edge of the reservoir and along the whole length of it. When you are past the reservoir the bridleway joins a track and you need to carry straight on along it, until you quickly come to a fork in the track after Siglen on your left. Stage 4 Veer right at the fork and the track will become more of a lane. Follow this lane along and eventually you will pass a wood on your left. You are now heading into Trefriw. Stage 5 In Trefriw you will come to a T junction where you need to turn right. You then come to a fork in the road where you need to veer right. Follow this road for a while and you will pass a large wood on your right. You will later pass a wood on your left and a reservoir on your right. Keep following the road and eventually it becomes a bridleway. Stage 6 Head straight on along the bridleway until eventually you come to a fork in the track. Veer right here and after a short distance you will come out onto the A4086 and A5 junction. Head right at this junction onto a bridleway off the junction that will take you straight back to the car park. SummaryThis route has been written using an Ordnance Survey Map rather than physically walked. At this stage we recommend that you should only attempt the route on horseback if you are familiar with the area or carry an Ordnance Survey map for back up. To validate this route, please print off the draft routecard, walk the route and amend the details where necessary. Hazards on Route
