| NOTTINGHAMSHIRE |
Nottinghamshire is located in the north of the East Midlands and is between Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. Most of the terrain is rolling countryside. The county’s primary towns are Sutton in Ashfield, Kirkby in Ashfield and Mansfield in the east. Southwell and Newark are located to the west and Worksop and Retford in the north.
From a riding perspective the best areas are around the Sherwood Forest area, although there are a few areas to ride in the south of the county, as well as the Midshires Way that links to the Pennine Way in Derbyshire. In addition to public bridleways there are a number of Forestry Commission managed trails that riders can purchase permits for.
The area is well served by a network of roads and motorways, allowing easy access to most areas within the county. We suggest that to get the most out of the area, you purchase the following Ordnance Survey Explorer maps: 260, 269, 270 and 271 to use in conjunction with our routes.
